Exterior rendering is the term most commonly used for an exterior plaster finish which is applied to the facade and external walls of a building. It consists of a mixture of sand and cement that is applied to the exterior walls of a building as a protective layer against the elements, adding both insulation and a waterproof coat to the building. Rendering can also be used to cover up damaged or unsightly brickwork, breeze blocks, old pebble dashing or to insulate a timber frame construction. It can also be manipulated to create either a smooth or patterned and textured decorative finishes to the external wall surfaces of a building.

External Rendering FAQ

What is rendering?

Rendering is the process carried out by the never paint again teams whereby we cover the exterior wall surface either with a sand and cement, a lime based, or a synthetic resin based coloured render.

What surfaces are suitable for rendering?

We can render onto most surfaces and in particular brick, stone, block, painted renders and dashes and some types of external weather boards and polystyrene BEKO type blocks.

My house is timber frame, can you still render?

Since we only use breathable renders that are flexible and crack resistant there is no issue dealing with a timber frame structure.

How long does it take to render a house?

From our experience a normal rendering job on a medium sized home takes around 5 days. (5 days for the exterior walls and 5 days for the interior walls). An average sized double story home will obviously take longer. It goes without saying that any unforeseen events such as rain, can hamper work, which might delay the project.

What render finishes are available?

The finish comes in a light texture or a more pronounced heavier texture finish and due to the glass fibre content of our base coats there is not a smooth plaster flat finish available. There is a wide choice of standard colours but we can supply bespoke colours if required.
